Abandoning their duties, members of the Aceh Regional Police Mobile Brigade are suspected of being Russian mercenaries in Donbass

ACEH, POSKOTA.CO.ID – Member of the Aceh Police Mobile Brigade Unit, Bripda Muhammad Rio left his duties without permission and is suspected of joining the Russian armed forces in the Donbass region, one of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict zones.

“Rio’s current status is personnel who have deserted because they left their official obligations without the approval of their superiors,” said Head of Public Relations of the Aceh Regional Police, Kombes Joko Krisdiyanto in his statement, Saturday, January 17 2026.

According to Joko, information regarding Rio’s alleged involvement with the Russian military did not come suddenly.

He is known to have a track record of violating the National Police’s professional code of ethics which has been processed through the Police Code of Ethics Commission (KKEP) hearing. Rio was once given ethical sanctions for having an extramarital affair and having an unregistered marriage.

“The KKEP trial decision on May 14 2025 imposed a sentence in the form of transfer, demotion for two years and placement in Yanma Brimob,” he said.

Joko explained that Rio had no longer entered service without providing information since Monday, December 8 2025. Until finally, he sent a short message via the WhatsApp application to a number of internal Brimob officials, including Provos members and Yanma officials, Wednesday, January 7 2026.

The message was accompanied by photos and videos showing his alleged involvement with a Russian mercenary division.

The documentation also displays the registration process as well as salary information received in rubles. However, before the message was received, the ranks of the Siprovos Satbrimob Polda Aceh had carried out various search efforts.

“We visited Rio’s parents’ residence and private house, and sent out two official summons but to no avail, we have done this and reported it to Bidpropam. Then a People Wanted List (DPO) was published on January 7 2026,” he said.
