MediaBantenCyber.co.id (MBC), Jakarta – The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) has begun implementing policies from the Government Regulation on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection or PP Tunas. Through this rule, social media accounts belonging to children under the age of 16 will be gradually deactivated.
This policy is a derivative of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP Tunas) which aims to strengthen child protection in the digital space.
Minister of Communications and Digital, Meutya Hafid, said the government had issued a ministerial regulation as a follow-up to PP Tunas to delay access for children under 16 years to high-risk digital platforms, including social media and networking services.
“Today we issued a Ministerial Regulation derived from PP Tunas. Through this regulation, the government delays access to accounts for children under 16 years on high-risk digital platforms, including social media and networking services,” said Meutya in her statement, Friday (6/3/2026).
According to Meutya, Indonesia is the first non-Western country to implement a policy of delaying children’s access to digital spaces based on age limits. This policy was taken because children are considered to face various threats on the internet, such as exposure to pornography, cyber bullying, online fraud, and the risk of digital addiction.

The government is aware that this policy has the potential to cause inconvenience for some parties. Children may complain about the restrictions, while parents will need to respond to various questions from their children.
However, Meutya emphasized that this step is important to protect the younger generation and safeguard the future of Indonesian children amidst the rapid development of digital technology.
“We want technology to humanize humans, not sacrifice our children’s childhoods,” he concluded. (*)
