SERANG CITY – Deputy Mayor of Serang, Nur Agis Aulia, led the commemoration of World Environment Day 2026 at the Serang City level which was held in the Cibanten River Border Park area, Wednesday (3/6/2026). This activity was filled with tree planting and environmental cleanliness movements as a form of concern for nature conservation and efforts to deal with climate change.
In her speech, Nur Agis Aulia said that this year’s World Environment Day carries the theme “It’s Time to Work for Climate”. This theme is a reminder that climate change is a real challenge that requires joint attention and action from all elements of society.
“Climate change is no longer an issue that is far from our lives. Its impacts have begun to be felt in various aspects of life. Therefore, cooperation and real action are needed from all parties to protect the environment and strengthen climate resilience,” said Agis.
He explained that choosing the Cibanten River Border Park as the location for the activity had an important meaning because the river is a source of life that must be protected together. Through tree planting activities, the Serang City Government is trying to keep the river border area green and sustainable.
According to him, trees have an important role in absorbing carbon emissions, maintaining air quality, preventing erosion, and helping reduce the risk of flooding. Therefore, tree planting carried out in commemoration of World Environment Day is a long-term investment for environmental sustainability.
“Today’s tree planting is a form of joint commitment to protecting the environment. What we plant today will provide great benefits for the community and future generations,” he said.
Apart from planting trees, this activity is also part of the Clean Wednesday Action program which the Serang City Government continues to promote as an effort to build a culture of clean living and caring for the environment.
Agis invites all state civil servants (ASN), students, communities, community organizations and residents of Serang City to make cleanliness and environmental preservation part of everyday life.
“Cleanliness and concern for the environment must become a shared culture. Protecting the environment is not only the government’s task, but the responsibility of the entire community,” he said.
He added that the Serang City Government continues to strive to improve environmental quality through various greening programs, waste management and environmental education. However, the success of this program requires the support and active participation of all elements of society.
At the end of his speech, Agis invited the entire community to use the momentum of World Environment Day as a reinforcement of the spirit of mutual cooperation to create a clean, green, healthy and resilient Serang City in the face of climate change.
“Hopefully what we do today will be a good deed for the environment and provide sustainable benefits for future generations,” he concluded.
